Trump trolls Canada again, shares map with country as part of US: ‘Oh Canada!’

President-elect Trump made headlines again on Tuesday with his provocative suggestion that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States. Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump shared maps depicting Canada as part of the U.S., sparking a flurry of reactions and discussions.

In one post, Trump shared a map showing both the U.S. and Canada labeled as “United States.” In another post, the two countries were covered in an American flag. With a touch of humor, Trump captioned one of the posts with a simple “Oh Canada!”

This isn’t the first time Trump has floated the idea of Canada joining the U.S. In a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump expressed his enthusiasm for the idea, stating, “Canada and the United States. That would really be something. They should be a state.”

On social media, Trump has been vocal about the potential benefits of Canada becoming a part of the U.S. He argued that the move could eliminate trade deficits, reduce taxes, and enhance security by warding off threats from Russian and Chinese ships that surround Canada.

However, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quickly shut down any notion of Canada joining the U.S. In a response on a different social media platform, Trudeau stated, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.”

Despite Trudeau’s dismissal, Trump continues to playfully troll Canada, even posting a photoshopped image of himself standing beside a Canadian flag on a mountain top. He has also taken jabs at Trudeau, referring to him as “governor” and threatening to impose tariffs on Canada.

Apart from his Canada proposal, Trump has also been pushing for Denmark to sell Greenland to the U.S., further fueling speculation and controversy around his unconventional ideas.

The ongoing banter between Trump and Canada, as well as his other bold suggestions, have generated mixed reactions from the public. While some view it as a lighthearted joke, others see it as a serious consideration that could have significant implications for both countries. Only time will tell if Trump’s vision of a 51st state will ever come to fruition.
