Trump vows to ‘save’ New York City from mayoral candidate Mamdani

President Donald Trump has taken aim at New York City mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani, vowing to “save” the city from what he called a “Communist Lunatic.” In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump declared that he has the power to intervene and prevent Mamdani from “destroying” New York City.
Trump’s remarks come as Mamdani, a Democratic Party nominee, faces criticism for his socialist policies and alleged ties to terrorism-linked rhetoric. The former president warned that he will not allow Mamdani to “crush” the city, stating, “I hold all the levers, and have all the cards. I’ll save New York City, and make it ‘Hot’ and ‘Great’ again, just like I did with the Good Ol’ USA!”
This is not the first time Trump has targeted Mamdani, with previous threats to withhold federal funding from the city if Mamdani is elected. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sentiments, labeling Mamdani as someone who would “completely crush New York City” if given the chance.
In response to calls for Mamdani to be denaturalized or deported, Leavitt stated that Trump would be willing to work with him if elected, but emphasized the challenges that may arise due to their differing values. She highlighted Mamdani’s communist beliefs and his rejection of American principles such as law and order, low taxes, and hard work as potential obstacles to collaboration.
Mamdani recently sparked controversy by refusing to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” during a television appearance, further fueling concerns about his political stance. As the mayoral race heats up, Trump’s strong stance against Mamdani reflects the intense scrutiny surrounding the Democratic candidate and the potential impact of his policies on New York City.
It remains to be seen how voters will respond to Trump’s warnings and whether Mamdani’s controversial views will affect his chances in the upcoming election. As the political landscape in New York City continues to evolve, the clash between Trump and Mamdani underscores the deep divisions and ideological differences that shape the city’s future.
