Trump’s dogfight with courts gets backup from Jim Jordan

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, revealed in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital that GOP lawmakers are gearing up to introduce a series of legislative measures aimed at reining in the judiciary. This move comes as the Trump administration faces legal battles in multiple federal courts over its policies.
Jordan emphasized that “everything’s on the table” and that Republicans are committed to offering their support to President Trump in his fight against the courts. One of the key initiatives being considered is a bill introduced by Rep. Darrell Issa of California, which seeks to limit federal judges’ ability to issue nationwide injunctions in response to more localized cases.
“We’ve looked at different ways to draft legislation. But we think that makes sense,” Jordan explained. “That’s something that we can look at doing and maybe even, you know, try to move fairly quickly on that bill.”
In addition to addressing nationwide injunctions, Jordan mentioned the possibility of reintroducing legislation from the previous Congress that would allow presidents or other federal officials involved in lawsuits or prosecutions to move their cases to federal court. He noted that the bill would be expanded to include a broader range of federal officials beyond just the president and vice president.
Furthermore, Jordan indicated that legislation aimed at expanding the number of federal judgeships across the country, which had previously passed the Senate but was not supported by Democrats in the House, could be brought up for a vote again. The bill, which would have added 66 new judges, was vetoed by President Biden earlier this year.
“We brought it up, but the Democrats voted against it after President Trump won. So we’ll try to pass that again and see if we can get the votes,” Jordan said.
Jordan revealed that his staff has been working closely with House Speaker Mike Johnson to advance these legislative efforts and get the bills onto the House floor. This concerted push for judicial reform comes in response to a wave of lawsuits and legal challenges against Trump’s executive orders and policies.
From the Department of Government Efficiency to birthright citizenship limitations, Trump’s initiatives have faced opposition and legal obstacles in the courts. Jordan and his Republican colleagues are determined to support the administration in overcoming these challenges and ensuring that the judiciary is held in check.
As the legislative process moves forward, it remains to be seen how these proposed measures will fare in Congress and what impact they will have on the ongoing legal battles surrounding the Trump administration’s policies. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
