Trump’s eighth week in office set to continue break-neck level of actions, rallying GOP to avoid shutdown

President Donald Trump is gearing up for another busy week in the Oval Office as the deadline for a government shutdown looms. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are working to pass a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through September 30 to avoid a shutdown at the end of the week.
“I am working with the GREAT House Republicans on a Continuing Resolution to fund the Government until September to give us some needed time to work on our Agenda,” Trump announced on Truth Social. He highlighted that the bill would set the stage for tax cuts and reduced spending, appealing to conservative voters.
Negotiators have released a 99-page piece of legislation that would maintain current government funding levels through the beginning of fiscal year 2026. House Republicans are confident that the bill will pass with their support alone. However, House Democrats are rallying against the legislation, accusing Republicans of trying to cut funding for healthcare, nutritional assistance, and veterans benefits.
In addition to the spending bill, Trump is set to impose tariffs of 25% on imports of steel and aluminum on March 12. The president will also receive a report on the two assassination attempts against him in Pennsylvania and Florida last year.
Trump teased the announcement of a “massive new program for building the largest ships in the world” this week, which will involve incentives and tax breaks. He also has meetings scheduled with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Taoiseach Micheál Martin of Ireland.
Having signed 87 executive orders since his return to the White House, Trump is entering his eighth week with a busy agenda. The president recently delivered a record-breaking address to a joint session of Congress, which was lauded as historic by his conservative allies.
As Trump navigates through another eventful week, his focus remains on passing key legislation, imposing tariffs, and strengthening international relationships. Stay tuned for updates on the president’s actions and decisions as he continues to lead the country through challenging times.
