Trump’s idea to relocate Palestinians from Gaza gets blowback from Arab nations

A coalition of powerful Arab nations has come together to reject President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip be relocated to Egypt and Jordan. The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, along with key officials from the Palestine Liberation Organization and the League of Arab States, met in Cairo to release a joint statement denouncing the plan.

The statement emphasized the unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights under international law. The leaders expressed their rejection of any actions that would violate these rights, such as settlement activities, home demolitions, land annexation, or the displacement of Palestinians from their land. They also firmly opposed any efforts to encourage the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians, stating that such actions would threaten regional stability, exacerbate the conflict, and hinder the prospects for peace and coexistence in the region.

The Arab nations welcomed the recent cease-fire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. They reiterated their commitment to working with the Trump administration to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East through a two-state solution, promoting a conflict-free region.

President Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan has been met with strong opposition from the leaders of these countries. Despite Trump’s belief that Egypt and Jordan would be willing to accept the displaced individuals, both countries have firmly stated that such a move would not be tolerated. President El-Sisi of Egypt emphasized the importance of stabilizing the cease-fire in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid to the region, while rejecting the idea of transferring Palestinians from their homeland.

Jordan, already home to over 2 million Palestinians, reiterated its firm opposition to the relocation proposal. Both Jordan and Egypt, the first two countries to make peace with Israel, support the establishment of a Palestinian state in the territories of the West Bank, Gaza, and east Jerusalem.

The Arab nations’ statement also highlighted the crucial role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in providing assistance to Palestinian refugees. They categorically rejected any attempts to diminish or bypass the agency’s role, emphasizing its irreplaceable importance in supporting the Palestinian population.

In conclusion, the powerful Arab nations stand united in their support for the Palestinian people and their rights, rejecting any proposals that would threaten their stability and well-being. The push for peace in the Middle East continues, with a strong commitment to finding a lasting solution through dialogue and cooperation.
