Trump’s response to LA riots rooted in ‘fascist agenda,’ Illinois Democrat says

As anti-ICE riots continue to rage across Los Angeles, congressional Democrats gathered to mark the 13th anniversary of DACA with a press conference. During the event, Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., accused President Donald Trump of unleashing a “campaign of terror” on illegal immigrants.

DACA, also known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a U.S. immigration policy that defers deportation for eligible immigrants who arrived in the country as children. Ramirez spoke just outside the Capitol building on Wednesday and condemned the Trump administration for targeting individuals they consider “undesirable.”

Ramirez specifically called out President Trump, border czar Tom Homan, Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, and the entire administration for their actions. She accused them of advancing a fascist agenda and attempting to portray immigrants as a public enemy. Ramirez even went as far as pushing a conspiracy theory that the president would target U.S. citizens in the same manner as he has deported criminal migrants.

“We don’t need bans, walls, raids, kidnappings, masked agents terrorizing our communities, or military attacking our neighbors. We have to demand an end to these terror tactics,” Ramirez declared boldly during the press conference.

Los Angeles has been in turmoil with fiery riots and clashes with police and federal authorities since Friday. The unrest began in response to immigration enforcement operations conducted by ICE throughout the city. In response to the escalating situation, President Trump deployed federalized National Guard troops and several hundred Marines to assist in restoring order.

The move to send in additional forces has sparked criticism from Democrats who accuse Trump of intentionally provoking the rioters. Ramirez emphasized the importance of standing with DACA recipients, their families, and all those targeted by the administration’s immigration policies.

While Ramirez painted a picture of innocent individuals being targeted, federal immigration authorities have provided details on criminal charges against the illegals arrested by ICE during the riots. ICE shared information on arrests made in Los Angeles, including individuals with convictions for serious offenses such as battery, threatening with intent to terrorize, lewd acts with a child, and murder.

Despite the efforts of anti-ICE protestors in the city, ICE has continued to carry out operations and arrest criminals who pose a threat to public safety. The ongoing clashes between law enforcement and rioters in Los Angeles highlight the complex and contentious nature of immigration enforcement in the United States.
