TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin to end after 19 seasons

The long-running current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, is set to conclude after 19 successful seasons. TVO has announced that this season will be the final one for the veteran host as he transitions into a new phase of his career with the public broadcaster.

Steve Paikin will continue to be a part of TVO’s lineup as the co-host of the weekly political podcast, #onpoli, and will also maintain his role as a columnist on the broadcaster’s website. Additionally, he will be hosting public engagements in the future. Prior to his time at TVO, Paikin spent seven years at CBC Television, showcasing his expertise in journalism and hosting.

Replacing The Agenda in its timeslot will be a new show called The Rundown, which TVO describes as featuring “original journalism and in-depth analysis exploring social, political, cultural, and economic issues that impact Ontarians.” The Rundown is scheduled to launch this fall, promising to deliver engaging and informative content to viewers.

In a recent column, Paikin reflected on his decision to step back from his full-time hosting duties, revealing that he and TVO’s vice-president of programming, John Ferri, had agreed that this would be his last contract as a full-time host with the Ontario broadcaster. Paikin expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in The Agenda over the past 19 seasons and shared his excitement for what the future holds.

The final episode of The Agenda is set to air on June 27, marking the end of an era for the long-running program. Paikin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host the show and stated that he is looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead.
