Twin Hamas hostages’ brother fights to bring his loved ones back home to Israel

Liran Berman, a loving brother to twins Gali and Ziv, describes them as the “light of every room [they] walk into.” These two brothers were tragically taken hostage during Hamas’ attacks on Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7. Liran shared with Fox News Digital that it was fitting for his brothers to bring light into every room, as they were both skilled lighting technicians.

Unlike many young Israelis who move to larger cities like Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, Gali and Ziv chose to stay in their family home in southern Israel. They made this decision so that they could assist their mother in caring for their father, who suffers from dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

The night of the attack, Gali and Ziv were forcefully removed from their beds while they were sleeping. Since then, they have been held captive in Gaza, separated from each other and their family. The family received some relief when they learned from released hostages that the twins were alive, but they continue to endure the pain of their absence.

Liran expressed gratitude for the signs of life they received after over a year of uncertainty. He stated, “It was a breath of fresh air, really it’s, it’s — For more than a year, we fought with a belief that they are still alive, nothing more. Because for more than a year we had information from November ‘23 and until late January ’25 we didn’t know anything.” The confirmation has given the family newfound strength and hope for their safe return.

In his efforts to raise awareness and advocate for his brothers’ release, Liran believes that President Donald Trump has the power to make a difference. He praised Trump’s administration for their efforts in negotiations and expressed hope for the safe return of all hostages, including Gali and Ziv.

As anti-Israel sentiments continue to rise on college campuses, Liran hopes to humanize the situation by reminding students that Gali and Ziv are not so different from them. He wants them to understand that these young men have their whole lives ahead of them and are dearly missed by their loved ones.

As we continue to pray for the safe return of Gali and Ziv Berman, may their story serve as a reminder of the human toll of conflict and the power of hope and perseverance in times of darkness.
