Two cruise ship passengers airlifted to Halifax hospital

HALIFAX, N.S. — Two people had to be airlifted off a cruise ship 100 miles southwest of Halifax on Monday.

The Serenade of the Seas, owned by the Royal Caribbean Group, was making its way to Sydney when the initial call for help went out.

As the SAR Squadron Greenwood was departing the vessel with one medically evacuated passenger, the ship called the CH-149 Cormorant back to pick up another.

Both were airlifted to an ambulance in Halifax.

The cruise ship is currently docked in Bar Harbour, Mass., and will hit Portland, Maine, before returning to port in Boston ahead of another seven-day sailing.
