U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Visit Ottawa Before G7 Summit

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be making a stop in Ottawa on Saturday to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before heading to the G7 leaders’ summit in Kananaskis, Alta.

During his visit, Starmer will focus on strengthening the economic and security partnership between Canada and the United Kingdom, building on their shared history and enduring ties. Carney’s office emphasized that the meeting aims to deliver growth and prosperity for both nations.

This isn’t the first time Carney and Starmer have met. In March, Carney traveled to London for his first foreign trip as prime minister, where he had the opportunity to sit down with Starmer. The visit also included a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The meeting between Carney and Starmer at 10 Downing Street was brief, with the prime ministers posing for photos and making short statements. They did not take any questions from the press.

Carney highlighted the importance of the two countries’ seamless security cooperation, describing it as essential as they navigate the changing global landscape. He emphasized that their collaboration within the G7 framework is crucial in reshaping the world.

The G7 summit is set to kick off on Sunday, where leaders from the world’s most powerful economies will gather to discuss key issues affecting global security and prosperity.
