UN expert repeatedly accuses Israel of ‘genocide’ as US demands her removal

Representatives of United Nations member states gathered in Geneva on Thursday to discuss the latest report by the controversial U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese. The meeting came just two days after the U.S. Mission to the U.N. called for Albanese’s removal, citing her “years-long pattern of antisemitism and anti-Israel bias.”

In Albanese’s report, entitled “From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide,” Israel is described as “a regime of settler-colonial apartheid.” Additionally, Albanese claims that corporations have aided Israel in “its ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza.”

“Israel is responsible for one of the cruelest genocides in modern history,” Albanese said when opening the session in Geneva on Thursday. She further alleged that “Israel has used the genocide as an opportunity to test new weapons, customized surveillance, lethal drones, radar systems and other unmanned technology to exterminate a people without restraint.”

The Palestinian envoy to the U.N. in Geneva, Ibrahim Khraishi, praised Albanese’s report and criticized the U.S. Mission to the U.N. in New York for accusing the special rapporteur of antisemitism. Khraishi defended Albanese, stating that “antisemites are those who support the genocidal government,” referring to Israel.

However, Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of U.N. Watch, was one of the few dissenting voices against the report. Neuer pointed out that Israel is accused of genocide 68 times in the report and emphasized that Israel is fighting a just war against a terrorist army.

While Israel’s Mission to the U.N. in Geneva did not physically respond, its ambassador issued a scathing condemnation of the special rapporteur in a statement to Fox News Digital. The ambassador criticized Albanese for pushing inflammatory rhetoric and baseless allegations against Israel, stating that her report is erroneous and offensive.

Albanese also targeted the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), describing it as a “death trap engineered to starve and force the flight of a starved, bombarded, emaciated population marked for elimination.” The GHF has defended its actions, emphasizing its goal of delivering aid to Palestinian people in a way that prevents Hamas from stealing it.

Despite accusations of antisemitism and bias, Albanese was reappointed as the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. In the past, she has faced condemnation from France and Germany for her statements about Israel, which have been criticized as antisemitic.

The U.S. Mission to the U.N. has expressed concerns about Albanese and called for her removal, citing her campaign against American and worldwide corporations. However, Albanese continues to hold her position, sparking controversy and debate within the international community.
