US slams Denmark as Vances visit Greenland Space Force base

Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are set to embark on a historic expedition to Greenland, a remote island that has recently become a focal point of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy. The Vances will be visiting the Pituffik Space Force Base, where they will receive a briefing on Arctic security issues and meet with U.S. service members.

According to a senior White House official, the Vice President will emphasize the importance of bolstering Arctic security, particularly in places like Pituffik Space Base. The official also noted that Danish leaders have neglected the Greenlandic people and allowed infrastructure on the island to deteriorate, a point that Vance is expected to address during the visit.

Originally, Second Lady Usha Vance was scheduled to travel to Greenland on a cultural trip to watch a dog sledding race. However, the Vice President decided to join her, and the focus of the trip was shifted to national security concerns.

Vance’s visit to Pituffik will mark the highest-ranking official to ever travel as far north as the base, showcasing the administration’s commitment to Arctic security. President Trump has made it clear that he sees Greenland as vital to national and international security, stating that “we need Greenland for national security and international security.”

Greenland, which relies heavily on financial support from Denmark, has recently received additional funding for defense in response to Trump’s interest in the island. The Trump administration has also expressed interest in investing in Greenland’s natural resources, such as rare Earth minerals and oil and gas reserves.

However, mining in Greenland has proven challenging due to the island’s icy terrain, with 80% of its landmass covered in ice. Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has criticized the upcoming Vance visit as “aggressive American pressure” and has called on European leaders to support the Greenlandic community.

The establishment of the Space Force in 2019 by President Trump underscores the importance of defending America’s interests in Earth’s orbit. With China and Russia increasing their presence in the Arctic region, the United States is prioritizing Arctic security to safeguard its strategic interests.

As Vice President Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance embark on their expedition to Greenland, they are poised to address key national security issues and strengthen ties with the Greenlandic community. Their visit to Pituffik Space Force Base will highlight the administration’s commitment to Arctic security and the importance of Greenland in the global geopolitical landscape.
