US strikes underground Houthi weapons depots used to hit American ships

The U.S. military recently conducted precision strikes on weapons depots used by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group in Yemen. The strikes targeted underground Advanced Conventional Weapon storage facilities within Houthi-controlled territories to prevent attacks on naval warships and merchant vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), there were no injuries to U.S. personnel and no damage to U.S. equipment during the operation. The exact location of the strikes in Yemen was not confirmed by the military, but reports indicate that multiple raids were carried out in the northwestern Amran province and Sanaa province, where the capital city of Sanaa is located.

The Houthi rebels have been a persistent threat in Yemen since taking over the capital city in 2014. In response to increased attacks by the group, the outgoing Biden administration has ramped up strikes on Houthi targets in recent months. These strikes have targeted command and control facilities, as well as weapons production and storage depots.

In addition to military strikes, the U.S. has successfully countered attempted attacks by the Houthis on naval and merchant ships in the region. The group’s attacks have intensified following the 2023 attacks by Hamas on Israel, which the Houthis have also targeted. As a result, the region has seen increased tensions and disruptions to shipping lanes and air transport.

Israel has warned that it will respond to Houthi attacks, stating that they will hunt down the group’s leaders and strike them as they have done with other Iran-backed forces. The ongoing conflict in Yemen continues to pose a threat to regional stability and security.

As the situation in Yemen remains volatile, it is essential for the international community to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a peaceful resolution. The U.S. military’s recent strikes on Houthi targets are a part of efforts to degrade the group’s ability to threaten regional partners and disrupt maritime activities in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
