Vance touts Trump wins at US-Mexico border as border crossings drop

Vice President JD Vance recently embarked on a tour of the southern border, celebrating a significant decrease in border encounters that he attributed to the policies of the previous Trump administration. Accompanied by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Vance visited Eagle Pass, Texas, where they met with Texas officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, and took part in an aerial tour of the border while observing a section of newly constructed border wall.

During a press briefing, Vance made a direct reference to President Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress, highlighting the impact of the change in administration on border security. “It turns out we didn’t need new laws. We didn’t need fancy legislation. We just needed a new President of the United States. And thank God, that’s exactly what we have,” Vance stated.

The trio also visited a Border Patrol detention facility and engaged in a roundtable discussion with local and national stakeholders. Defense Secretary Hegseth emphasized the crucial link between border security and national security, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to preventing illegal crossings and reducing migrant crime.

Vance shared statistics indicating a significant drop in border crossings, from 1,500 a day to just 30 a day, along with an 85% decrease in fatalities at the border. He underscored the importance of maintaining a secure border to prevent criminal activities like drug trafficking and enhance the safety of American communities.

Director of National Intelligence Gabbard echoed Vance’s sentiments, emphasizing the administration’s focus on safeguarding the American people. She highlighted the president’s decision to designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations as part of the comprehensive border security strategy.

The Trump administration’s approach to border security included executive orders declaring a national emergency, deploying military personnel, resuming border wall construction, and ending parole policies. The Department of Homeland Security ramped up interior enforcement efforts, expanded expedited removal procedures, and secured cooperation with other countries for migrant repatriation.

The results of these measures were evident in the sharp decline in border encounters, with only 8,326 reported in February compared to 189,913 in February 2024. The administration has also removed over 55,000 illegal immigrants from the country, demonstrating a robust enforcement approach.

During his address to Congress, President Trump highlighted the success of these policies, noting the lowest recorded levels of illegal border crossings. He credited the swift actions taken upon assuming office for deterring migrants from attempting to enter the country illegally.

Overall, the visit to the southern border underscored the administration’s commitment to enhancing border security and upholding national sovereignty. The collaboration between federal and state authorities, along with the deployment of strategic measures, has yielded tangible results in reducing illegal crossings and enhancing public safety.
