Victims in New Orleans terror attack identified by family, friends

Heartbreak and devastation struck the city of New Orleans as a terrorist suspect plowed a car into a large crowd on New Year’s Day, leaving at least 15 people dead and dozens injured. The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was described by New Orleans police chief Anne Kirkpatrick as being “hell-bent on creating the carnage and damage that he did.” The attack was intentional, with the suspect trying to run over as many people as possible.

Nicole Perez, a 28-year-old single mother, was also among the victims of the attack. She had recently been promoted to manager at Kimmy’s Deli and was described as a dedicated and loving mother to her 4-year-old son. Reggie Hunter, 37, had decided to go to Bourbon Street on a whim to ring in the new year with his cousin when he tragically lost his life in the attack.

The community came together to support the families of the victims, with fundraisers being set up to cover burial costs and support the children left behind. The city was left reeling from the senseless violence, with many questioning how such a tragedy could occur. The FBI launched an investigation into the incident, classifying it as an act of terrorism.
