Victoire’s Poulin hungry for championship glory in 2nd PWHL campaign

Marie-Philip Poulin, the captain of the Montréal Victoire, is no stranger to success. With a trophy chest brimming with awards and medals, Poulin has achieved nearly everything there is to accomplish in the world of women’s hockey. However, there is one significant piece missing from her collection – a Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) championship.

As Poulin enters the later stages of her career at 33 years old, she is more determined than ever to lead her team to victory in the upcoming PWHL season. After an early playoff exit in the league’s inaugural season, Poulin is fired up and ready to compete for the coveted Walter Cup.

“The fire is still there,” Poulin stated confidently during a recent press conference at Verdun Auditorium. “I still love what I’m doing, I’m passionate about this sport. We want to win that Walter Cup, and I know the competition will be fierce. It’s going to be a battle, but we’re ready for it.”

As one of the top scorers in the league last season, Poulin understands the importance of not only producing on the ice but also mentoring and guiding the younger players on her team. She recognizes that her role goes beyond just scoring goals and emphasizes the need to support and elevate her teammates to reach their full potential.

Heading into the second season of the PWHL, the Victoire have made some key additions to their roster to strengthen their depth and competitiveness. With players like Laura Stacey, Erin Ambrose, and Ann-Renee Desbiens leading the way, the team is poised for success.

One of the major roster changes for the Victoire includes the addition of U.S. standout Cayla Barnes to bolster their defensive lineup. Despite initially being sidelined with an injury, Barnes has made a remarkable recovery and is expected to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

On the offensive end, the team has added sharpshooting Swedish league MVP Lina Ljungblom to complement Poulin and Stacey on the top line. With a mix of experienced veterans and promising young talent, the Victoire are shaping up to be a formidable force in the upcoming season.

In goal, Montreal boasts one of the best tandems in the league with Elaine Chuli and Ann-Renee Desbiens guarding the net. With a solid defensive core and a potent offensive lineup, the Victoire are determined to make a strong statement in the PWHL.

As the team prepares for their home opener at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, all eyes will be on Poulin and her teammates as they embark on their quest for PWHL glory. With a renewed sense of purpose and determination, the Victoire are ready to write the next chapter in their storied history and etch their names in the annals of women’s hockey greatness.
