Video shows officials searching debris near fatal Philadelphia plane crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently shared footage of officials sifting through the wreckage left in the wake of the tragic plane crash in Philadelphia on Jan. 31. The crash claimed the lives of at least seven individuals and left 22 others injured.
The video, captured on Sunday, captured the somber aftermath of the Learjet 55 crash. Streets once bustling with activity were now deserted, littered with debris, caution tape, and abandoned vehicles. Construction barriers cordoned off the crash site, where an official stood amidst a massive crater examining the rubble. Drone footage revealed cars with shattered windows covered in ash several yards away from the impact zone.
The fatal incident, involving a medevac jet, occurred near the Roosevelt Mall around 6:30 p.m. The aircraft was departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport on its way to Missouri for a refueling stop before continuing its journey to Mexico.
Jet Air Ambulance spokesperson Shai Gold disclosed that one of the passengers onboard was a Mexican national receiving life-saving medical treatment in the U.S. The passenger, a young girl traveling with her mother, was en route back home during the crash.
Of the six individuals aboard the plane, which included four crew members, at least 22 people were injured. The seventh fatality was an individual in a car at the time of the crash. Mayor Cherelle Parker of Philadelphia confirmed the status of the injured, with five still hospitalized, three in critical condition.
Following the crash, fires erupted but were eventually brought under control by Philadelphia fire officials. Gold explained that the aircraft was carrying highly flammable jet fuel, contributing to the intensity of the flames.
Despite the grim outlook, officials recovered the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and the enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS) from the scene. The NTSB stated that the EGPWS could contain valuable flight data, which will be analyzed at the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington, DC.
The investigative process continues, with both engines recovered and all wreckage to be transported to a secure location in Delaware for further examination. The NTSB emphasized the importance of meticulous analysis to determine the cause of the tragic crash.
As the investigation unfolds, our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
