VP-elect JD Vance to hold meetings between Gaetz, Hegseth and ‘key’ GOP senators

Vice President-elect JD Vance is making moves on Capitol Hill this week, setting up meetings between key GOP senators and Trump cabinet picks Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth. The goal is to expedite the confirmation process and start delivering on promises to the American people.

According to Brian Hughes, a Trump-Vance Transition spokesman, the incoming administration is working on a tight schedule to ensure key nominees are confirmed. Representatives Collins, Gaetz, Hegseth, and Stefanik will kick off their meetings this week, with more to follow after the Thanksgiving recess.

JD Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, is spearheading efforts to garner support for Trump’s controversial nominees. Gaetz, announced as Trump’s pick for attorney general, shocked many when he resigned from Congress to take on the role. If confirmed, Gaetz will lead the Justice Department in Trump’s second term starting in January.

Despite facing an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, Gaetz’s confirmation in the Senate is not expected to be derailed. Trump has also nominated Pete Hegseth, a former FOX personality and Army National Guard veteran, to serve as secretary of defense, despite his lack of senior military or national security experience.

Vance’s absence from recent Senate votes drew criticism from some senators, but he defended his decision by stating that he was participating in interviews for potential candidates for the next FBI director and other vacancies. He later retracted his statement and deleted a post from social media.

Vance’s efforts to rally support for Trump’s nominees reflect the administration’s determination to move forward swiftly. With key meetings scheduled on Capitol Hill, the transition team is pushing to ensure a smooth confirmation process for the incoming cabinet members.
