Wade Miley addresses allegations in Tyler Skaggs wrongful death lawsuit

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Wade Miley has found himself entangled in a controversial situation involving the late Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs, who tragically passed away from an overdose in 2019, allegedly confided in his former agent, Ryan Hamill, that Miley was one of his suppliers of pain pills containing oxycodone.

The revelation came to light during a deposition as part of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Skaggs’ family against his former team, the Los Angeles Angels. Skaggs and Miley were teammates with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the early 2010s, further adding a layer of complexity to the situation.

Miley, in response to these allegations, expressed his condolences for Skaggs’ untimely death and stated that he has never been a witness to any illicit activities nor has he been accused of any wrongdoing. The pitcher, now with the Cincinnati Reds, has chosen not to delve into the specifics of the accusations leveled against him.

This is not the first time Miley’s name has surfaced in connection to Skaggs’ death. During the sentencing of former Angels publicist Eric Kay, who was convicted of providing fentanyl-laced pills to Skaggs, prosecutors presented evidence of a conversation where Kay implicated Miley as one of Skaggs’ drug suppliers.

Additionally, former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey admitted to providing drugs to Skaggs, shedding light on a culture of drug use within the Angels organization at the time of Skaggs’ passing. Other players, including C.J. Cron, Mike Morin, and Cam Bedrosian, also testified about receiving drugs from Kay.

Despite these revelations, Miley remains uncharged with any criminal offense. The 38-year-old left-hander recently signed a one-year contract with the Reds and has been making appearances on the mound this season. Miley underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024 and has been on a path to recovery, showcasing his resilience in the face of adversity.

The tragic loss of Tyler Skaggs continues to reverberate through the baseball community, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers of substance abuse.
