They have been dominant in recent years, winning the title in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, and finishing as runners-up in 2021. On the other hand, Cavalry FC made it to their first final last year, and are determined to make their mark this time around.

Both teams have already secured a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the pinnacle of North American club soccer, after finishing in the top two spots in the regular season standings. Forge FC finished at the top with 50 points, while Cavalry FC closely followed with 48 points.

During the pre-game coverage, CBC Sports’ Andi Petrillo led an on-site panel featuring analysts Gareth Wheeler and Kristian Jack, along with former York United FC defender Jordan Wilson. The atmosphere is electric as fans eagerly await the outcome of this thrilling final.

Forge FC’s head coach, Bobby Smyrniotis, who has won four Canadian Premier League titles but had yet to win Coach of the Year, finally claimed the award. Meanwhile, Tristan Borges of Forge FC was named the CPL Player of the Year for the second time, with Kwasi Poku receiving the Best Canadian U-21 Player award after his transfer to Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek.
