Thousands of residents served by the Glace Bay water treatment plant are being asked to not to use water unless necessary while a water main break is repaired.

An emergency alert issued at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday said the disruption is affecting Glace Bay, Dominion, Reserve Mines, Birch Grove, Port Morien, Donkin and Tower Road.

Public works has located the break and is working on repairs, the alert said.

An advisory was issued by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Area councillor Darren Bruckschwaiger said residents will be notified when repairs have been completed.
