WCB and Lifemark work together to recover for injured employees

More than a million working days have been lost due to injuries at the workplace in Nova Scotia last year, but a new recovery program with work is intended to reduce that lost time by 35 percent in the next five years.

The Workers’ Compensation Board from Nova Scotia works together with Lifemark Health Group to launch the program, because it works to improve what are now some of Canada’s worst statistics for the lost time of work.

Under the new program, Lifemark will create a provincial network of providers that places employees in the first place. Wounded employees can expect faster care and recovery through a more accessible system that is designed to help them get back to work.

The WCB supports more than 10,000 employees every year with physical and psychological injuries. On average, someone with a traumatic psychological injury waits 42 days before being treated. The aim of the new program is to reduce that waiting time by half or more.

The program is planned to start in January.
