‘We are one’: AOC campaign video swirls 2028 presidential rumors

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has been making waves across the United States as she joins Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. With their progressive message resonating with Americans, speculation is growing about whether the New York Democrat is gearing up for a potential presidential run.
In a recent video posted on X by Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign account, the four-term Democrat from New York City and progressive leader proclaimed, “We are one.” Speaking on a campaign-style stage in Idaho, Ocasio-Cortez shared her humble beginnings, stating, “I’m a girl from the Bronx. To be welcomed here in this state, all of us together, seeing our common cause, this is what this country is all about.”
Nate Silver, founder of FiveThirtyEight and a prominent pollster, recently suggested that Ocasio-Cortez is a frontrunner for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2028. In a draft 2028 pick with FiveThirtyEight’s Galen Druke, Silver named Ocasio-Cortez as his top choice to lead the party’s ticket. Druke echoed Silver’s sentiment, noting that Ocasio-Cortez has broad appeal across the Democratic Party.
The buzz around Ocasio-Cortez’s potential presidential ambitions has been fuelled by her recent tour with Sanders and the enthusiastic response from Americans. Many have taken to X to share the video, with political reporter Eric Daugherty confidently stating, “Get ready America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will almost undoubtedly run for president in 2028.”
Meanwhile, back in New York, a Siena College poll revealed that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s favorability is down to 39% among New York state voters, while Ocasio-Cortez’s favorability has soared to 47%. This shift in perception comes as DNC vice chair David Hogg faced backlash from the party for investing $20 million into electing younger Democrats to safe House Democrat seats.
Republican strategist Colin Reed acknowledged Ocasio-Cortez’s growing influence within the Democratic Party and warned against underestimating her potential as a candidate for higher office. Despite her passionate advocacy and energy, Reed believes that Ocasio-Cortez’s ideas may be too far outside the mainstream to be electable at a nationwide level.
As Democrats grapple with finding a clear party leader and consistent message following recent election losses, Reed emphasized the opportunity for Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders to dominate the national Democratic narrative. He noted the current vacuum in leadership within the party, which has led to chaos and a lack of direction.
While Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders continue to draw attention with their climate advocacy, Reed highlighted concerns about their use of private jets, which contribute to carbon emissions. This perceived hypocrisy may pose a challenge for their credibility among voters.
As speculation mounts about Ocasio-Cortez’s future political ambitions, her campaign has remained tight-lipped. With the 2028 presidential election on the horizon, all eyes will be on the rising star from New York as she navigates her path in the political landscape.
