Weir enjoys the chance to play in Canada again at Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary

Mike Weir, a Canadian Golf Hall of Famer, is gearing up to compete in the Rogers Charity Classic at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary. This event marks the fifth consecutive year that Weir will be participating in the three-day PGA Tour Champions tournament, which runs from Friday to Sunday.
“We only get once a year to play in Canada during this tour, so it’s great,” said Weir. “I look forward to great fan support at the weekend and I like this course, so hopefully I can get myself in the mix on Sunday.”
Weir has had some ups and downs in previous tournaments, with a ninth place finish in 2021 followed by a 46th and 47th place finish. However, last year he showed strong rounds of 68, 67, and 67, finishing in a tie for 20th overall.
“I feel pretty comfortable here now,” said Weir, who has one win on the Senior Circuit and eight PGA Tour titles, including a historic win at the Masters in 2003.
To secure a win on home soil, Weir will have to face tough competition from players like Miguel Angel Jiminez, Steve Alker, and Padraig Harrington, who are currently at the top of the Senior Tour’s Schwab Cup Money List.
“The competition is great here,” said Weir. “You have to start quickly and get to work early, because it is difficult to catch up. If you have an even round or something, it is quite difficult to make it right, so you have to get out of the gates and get to work.”
The field also includes other champions like Ken Tanigawa and Scott McCarron, as well as World Golf Hall of Famers Vijay Singh and Padraig Harrington. Canadian Golf Hall of Famers Stephen Ames will also be competing in the tournament.
Local talent will also be on display, with Canadian players like Gordon Burns and Wes Martin earning their spots in the tournament. Martin, in particular, shot an impressive nine-under 62 to secure his place in the event.
Overall, the Rogers Charity Classic promises to be an exciting event with top talent from around the world competing for the $2.5 million purse. Fans can expect to see some thrilling golf action as the players battle it out on the course in Calgary.
