WestJet Plane Makes Hard Landing in St. Maarten

A WestJet plane operating from Toronto made a “hard landing” at an airport in the Caribbean country of St. Maarten, the airline said on Sunday.

Emergency Evacuation

The airline said all passengers and crew were evacuated from WestJet flight 2276 after the plane arrived at Princess Juliana International Airport. The plane’s slides were activated and emergency responders deployed foam as a precaution.

No Injuries Reported

WestJet confirmed that there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. “At this time, we are awaiting confirmation on the exact nature of the incident,” WestJet said in a statement, noting it is co-operating with local authorities.

“Our teams are focused on supporting our guests and crew, ensuring their safety and care remain our highest priority.”

Passenger Safety

The airport reported that there were 164 passengers on board. It also confirmed that the plane did not catch fire and there were no injuries. However, three people were taken for medical evaluation as a precaution.
