Labour Day in Nova Scotia: What’s Open and What’s Closed

With Labour Day just around the corner, it’s important to know which stores and services will be affected by the holiday. In Nova Scotia, Labour Day is a designated retail closing day, meaning many stores will be closed for the day.

Retail and Grocery Stores:
– Grocery stores like Sobeys, Walmart, and Atlantic Superstore will be closed on Labour Day.
– However, Dartmouth’s Gateway Meat Market will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as Dave’s Fruit and Vegetable Market from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
– Wolfville’s Hennigar’s Farm Market will also be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– All NSLC stores in Halifax Regional Municipality will be closed, along with major shopping centres like Halifax Shopping Centre, Mic Mac Mall, and Sunnyside Mall.

Services Affected:
– Municipal offices in Halifax will be closed, as well as libraries.
– The call centre for 311 will only be taking urgent calls.
– Buses and ferries will be running on a holiday schedule.
– Solid waste collection will not take place on Monday in areas that typically have collection services on that day. Instead, collection services were moved to Saturday.

While some pharmacies will remain open for the holiday, it’s best to plan ahead and make sure you have everything you need before Labour Day rolls around. Enjoy the long weekend, and make sure to take advantage of the extra time off!
