White House condemns Los Angeles riots, blasts California officials

The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has condemned the protests and riots in Los Angeles as “shameful,” criticizing California officials for failing to control the “left-wing radicals.” Leavitt made these remarks during a press briefing on Wednesday, highlighting President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore law and order in the city. She accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of neglecting their duties to protect law-abiding citizens from rioters.

Leavitt emphasized the deployment of the National Guard and mobilization of Marines by President Trump to quell the chaos and bring the perpetrators to justice. She expressed confidence in the administration’s operations to arrest illegal aliens, stating that the mob violence is being swiftly addressed.

During the briefing, Leavitt addressed questions regarding the criteria used by Trump to federalize California’s National Guard. When CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins raised concerns about the military’s authority to conduct arrests, Leavitt cited U.S. Code 10 as the basis for federalizing the National Guard.

In response to the unrest in Los Angeles, Trump deployed 2,000 National Guardsmen and 700 U.S. Marines to the city. He also indicated a willingness to arrest Governor Newsom if he obstructs ICE operations during the riots. Trump’s comments drew attention to Newsom’s handling of the situation, with the president criticizing him for incompetence.

Trump’s assertion that many rioters are professional agitators rather than genuine protesters was met with a swift response from Newsom on social media. The governor defended the protesters and condemned Trump for his remarks.

The ongoing unrest in Los Angeles has put Democrats on the defensive, with the Trump administration taking a strong stance against the violence and disorder. The president’s actions have sparked debate and controversy, highlighting the challenges of maintaining law and order in a politically charged environment.
