White House touts immigration success in first 100 days of Trump’s term

The White House marked the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s administration with a focus on immigration enforcement. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Tom Homan held a briefing to highlight the administration’s efforts in combating illegal immigration. They emphasized the significant decrease in border crossings and the implementation of new executive orders aimed at deportations and strengthening border security.

Leavitt stated, “We are currently executing the largest deportation campaign in American history. After facing criticism from the previous administration, our dedicated ICE officers can finally carry out their duties.” Homan also accused the Biden administration of intentionally leaving the border unsecured, despite inheriting a secure border from the previous Trump administration.

During the briefing, Homan raised important questions about the impact of reduced border crossings, such as the decrease in sexual assaults by cartels, the prevention of child deaths during the journey, and the prevention of human trafficking and drug smuggling. The administration’s Operation Tidal Wave, described as the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, was highlighted as just the beginning of a broader enforcement strategy.

The Trump administration reported deporting 100,000 illegal immigrants in early April, with ongoing efforts continuing to remove individuals who violate immigration laws. Recent high-profile deportations have included Venezuelan gang members being deported to an El Salvador mega prison under the Alien Enemies Act. This move has faced legal challenges, with the administration proceeding to deport alleged gang members to El Salvador from Guantánamo Bay via Title 8.

The briefing concluded with a preview of upcoming press conferences scheduled for the week, including one with Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent. The administration remains committed to its immigration enforcement policies, with a focus on ensuring national security and upholding immigration laws.
