Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan indicted by federal grand jury

A federal grand jury has indicted Wisconsin circuit court judge, Hannah Dugan, who was arrested last month for allegedly shielding an illegal immigrant from federal agents. Dugan faces charges of obstruction of an official proceeding and concealing an individual to prevent discovery and arrest.

The indictment came after evidence surfaced that Dugan had attempted to help an illegal alien escape arrest in her courtroom. Testimony from Eduardo Flores-Ruiz’s attorney, who has since withdrawn from the case, and Dugan’s court clerk was presented to the grand jury.

Milwaukee County Judge Kristela Cervera, whose courtroom is adjacent to Dugan’s, also provided testimony during the proceedings. Dugan’s attorneys have maintained her innocence, stating that she looks forward to being vindicated in court.

Dugan is scheduled to appear in federal court on May 15 to face charges of felony obstruction of a federal agency and concealing a person to help them avoid arrest. She is expected to enter a plea during the hearing.

The FBI arrested Dugan for allegedly hiding a previously deported illegal immigrant in her jury room to prevent him from being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Federal agents attempted to arrest Flores-Ruiz after his court appearance before Dugan on misdemeanor battery charges.

Dugan reportedly escorted Flores-Ruiz and his attorney out a restricted jury door after his hearing, bypassing the area where agents were waiting to arrest him. Her attorney has expressed regret over her arrest, stating that it was not in the interest of public safety.

Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem expressed gratitude for Dugan’s indictment, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for breaking the law. Attorney General Pam Bondi criticized Dugan’s actions, stating that protecting a criminal defendant over victims of crime is unacceptable.
