WNBA star after Trump’s presidential win: ‘We are truly so broken as a country’
Phoenix Mercury guard Natasha Cloud expressed her dismay at the re-election of former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. Cloud took to social media to voice her concerns, stating that the country is “truly so broken” for this reality. She criticized the privilege of celebrating the victory and highlighted her worries about fundamental human rights, including racism, misogyny, and hatred towards women that she believes are deeply rooted in America.
As the election results came in, Fox News called Pennsylvania and Wisconsin for Trump, helping him surpass the 270 electoral-vote threshold. Trump also secured victories in several other states, including Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and more. By early Wednesday, Trump had garnered 277 electoral votes compared to Harris’ 226. He also led in the popular vote with over 71.1 million votes to Harris’ 66.2 million.
Cloud’s sentiments echoed those of other celebrities who were dissatisfied with Trump’s win, including Cardi B and Quentin Tarantino. The election outcome sparked a wave of disappointment and concern among many individuals across the country.
Despite the election results, Cloud’s message serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges and divisions within the United States. As the nation navigates through this period of uncertainty, it is essential to address the underlying issues of racism, misogyny, and inequality that continue to impact society.
