Woman, 80, seriously injured in SUV crash in Hatchet Lake

HATCHET LAKE, N.S. — An 80-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle accident in Hatchet Lake, just outside Halifax, on Monday.

Shortly before 3 p.m., emergency crews were called to an area near Prospect and Club roads after reports that a Hyundai Tucson was in the ditch.

Police believe the driver and lone occupant, a woman from the nearby community of Terence Bay, was heading south when her vehicle crossed the centre line before coming to rest in the ditch.

Prospect Road was closed for several hours as a collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The road has since reopened, and the investigation is ongoing.
