Woman accusing Jay-Z, ‘Diddy’ of rape can be anonymous: court

NEW YORK –

A recent ruling by a judge in New York allows an Alabama woman to proceed anonymously in her lawsuit against rap moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs, where she alleges she was raped by them when she was just 13 years old. The judge, Analisa Torres, also criticized Jay-Z’s lawyer for his aggressive tactics and inflammatory language towards the plaintiff’s attorney.

Judge Torres granted the woman permission to remain anonymous in the early stages of the lawsuit but may be required to reveal her identity later on if the case progresses. This decision was made due to the significant public interest in the case and to allow defense lawyers to gather necessary information for trial preparation. Combs, who is currently in jail awaiting a criminal trial on federal sex trafficking charges, is also facing numerous sexual assault lawsuits brought forth by the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.

The allegations in the lawsuits claim that individuals were abused at parties in various states after being given drug-laced drinks. Combs’ legal team has dismissed these lawsuits as publicity stunts aimed at extorting money from celebrities. Jay-Z has also denied the allegations, stating that Buzbee is attempting to blackmail him into settling the woman’s claims.

The woman, identified as “Jane Doe,” alleges that she was raped by Jay-Z and Combs at an after-party for the MTV Music Awards in 2000 when she was living in Rochester. Despite inconsistencies in her story, she stands by her claims. Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, has requested to dismiss his client from the lawsuit, citing discrepancies in the plaintiff’s account, such as the absence of a jumbotron at the event where she claimed to have watched the awards show.

Judge Torres criticized Spiro for his aggressive tactics and attacks on the plaintiff’s lawyer, stating that such behavior is inappropriate and a waste of judicial resources. The case is ongoing, with both parties preparing for further proceedings.

It remains to be seen how this lawsuit will unfold and what implications it may have for both Jay-Z and Combs. The legal battle continues, with the woman seeking justice for the alleged assault she endured as a teenager.
