Woman dead after crash near New Glasgow

One person is dead after a crash on Highway 104 near New Glasgow Friday evening.

RCMP say a Honda CRV was travelling east at 5:40 p.m. when it struck a deer. The SUV was then struck from behind by a transport truck.

The driver of the CRV, a 42-year-old woman from New Glasgow, was taken to the town’s hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to Halifax, where she passed away as a result of her injuries. She was the only person in the car.

The 61-year-old New Brunswick man driving the truck was taken to hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The road was closed for several hours while a collision reconstructionist worked at the scene.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t yet spoken with police is asked to call Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333.
