California families celebrate Trump administration’s probe into state’s refusal to follow trans athlete order

President Donald Trump’s Department of Education has recently announced plans to investigate the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the state’s public school athletic association, for allegedly not complying with the executive order to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls’ sports. The decision has been praised by the California Family Council (CFC), who see this as a crucial step towards restoring justice in high school sports.

In a statement, the CFC expressed their support for the investigation, stating that the CIF has prioritized radical gender ideology over fairness, safety, and the integrity of women’s athletics for too long. The CFC’s Outreach Director, Sophia Lorey, applauded the Trump administration’s intervention, calling it a cause for tears of joy. Lorey, a former CIF varsity athlete, has been advocating for female athletes affected by transgender athlete inclusion in California for three years.

The controversy surrounding transgender athletes in California came to a head at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, where a transgender athlete reportedly took a varsity spot from a girls’ cross-country runner. This incident prompted students like Taylor Starling and Kaitlyn Slavin to take matters into their own hands by wearing T-shirts that read “Save Girls Sports” and filing a lawsuit against the school district.

Ryan Starling, Taylor’s father, expressed gratitude towards President Trump for taking action to investigate the state’s defiance of the executive order. Even school administrators within the CIF jurisdiction have supported the Department of Education’s investigation, calling for consequences for institutions that allow transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports.

Amber French, a women’s swimmer at California Baptist University, highlighted the detrimental impact of allowing transgender athletes to compete with girls, citing potential college opportunities being jeopardized and safety concerns for biological female athletes. The CIF has confirmed that they have been notified of the forthcoming investigation but declined to comment further on the matter.

In addition to investigating the CIF, Trump’s Department of Education will also be looking into Minnesota’s high school athletics association for non-compliance with the executive order. The DOE is also investigating several other institutions for incidents involving transgender athletes competing on women’s or girls’ sports teams.

Overall, the investigation into the CIF and other entities is seen as a critical step towards protecting the integrity, safety, and opportunities of female sports. The ongoing scrutiny of transgender athlete inclusion in girls’ sports is sparking a heated debate across the nation, with stakeholders on both sides of the issue voicing their concerns and advocating for their respective positions.
