Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. posts umpire criticism on social media after ejection

New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. found himself in hot water after being ejected from Thursday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. While the ejection itself was noteworthy, it was Chisholm’s actions on social media that could land him in even bigger trouble.

Chisholm was tossed from the game in the seventh inning after arguing a third strike call from plate umpire John Bacon. This marked his fifth career ejection, but his first with the Yankees. Following his ejection, Chisholm took to social media to express his frustration with the call. In a now-deleted post, he wrote, “Not even f—ing close,” in reference to the disputed call.

However, Chisholm’s social media outburst may have violated MLB’s strict policy regarding electronic devices during games. According to the policy, players are prohibited from using electronic equipment 30 minutes prior to the start of a game until its conclusion. Additionally, the policy prohibits any content that questions the impartiality of or denigrates an umpire.

Chisholm’s post, which was made minutes after his ejection while the game was still ongoing, appeared to violate both of these rules. In a post-game interview, Chisholm defended his actions on the field but acknowledged that his comments on social media may have crossed a line.

“I’m a competitor, so when I go out there, and I feel like I’m right, and you’re saying something to me that I think doesn’t make sense, I’m going to get fired up and be upset,” Chisholm said. “I lost my emotions, I lost my cool. So, at the same time, I still got to be able to stay out there and play defense for my team. That’s why I’m here.”

Despite the controversy, the Yankees went on to win the game against the Rays with a score of 6-3. It remains to be seen whether Chisholm will face any further disciplinary action from MLB for his social media post.

In conclusion, Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s ejection from the game and subsequent social media controversy have put him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. As a professional athlete, it is important for Chisholm to adhere to MLB’s rules and regulations, both on and off the field.
