Yankees opening day: Fans perturbed over national anthem singer

New York Yankees fans had a rollercoaster of a day at the ballpark on Thursday as they watched their team take on the Milwaukee Brewers during the opening day game. The day started off with Broadway actress and singer Betsy Wolfe singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” However, fans were quick to notice that Wolfe was reading the lyrics off of her phone, sparking some backlash on social media.

Despite the rocky start, the game itself was filled with excitement. Yankees catcher Austin Wells made history by hitting a solo home run in the first inning, becoming the first catcher in MLB history to hit a lead-off home run on opening day. The game remained tight as the Yankees struggled to close out the Brewers.

In the ninth inning, Yankees closer Devin Williams faced some challenges as he allowed a couple of hits and a run to score. However, he was able to strike out two batters and secure the win for New York, with a final score of 4-2.

The two teams are set to face off again on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET, giving fans another chance to see some exciting baseball action. Overall, it was a tough but ultimately successful day for Yankees fans at the ballpark.
