‘You should be deported’: Cruz fumes at ex-Iranian official on Princeton faculty

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has continued his feud with former Iranian regime official Seyed Hossein Mousavian, a faculty member at Princeton University who has been accused of making Jewish students uncomfortable amid rising tensions between the US and Iran.

In response to a post by Mousavian on X (formerly Twitter), Cruz stated, “I try not to be in the room with people linked to Iranian terrorists who have murdered dozens of dissidents.” Cruz also took a jab at Mousavian’s academic work, saying, “Your books are unreadable, and the only debate you should be having is with DHS agents, at the end of which you should be deported.”

The exchange between Cruz and Mousavian escalated after Cruz called on Princeton to fire Mousavian from his position as a Middle East security and nuclear policy specialist. Mousavian, who served as a spokesman for Iran during nuclear negotiations in the 2000s, invited Cruz to publicly debate him on the issues at hand.

Mousavian defended his academic work at Princeton, emphasizing that his focus has always been on promoting peace between Iran and the US, resolving Iran’s nuclear crisis peacefully, and advocating for peace and security in the Middle East.

The former Iranian ambassador also revealed that he had been arrested by Iran in 2007 and forced to leave the country in 2009. He has previously expressed support for Hamas and Hezbollah and attended the funeral of Qassem Soleimani, a terrorist killed in a US-led attack during the Trump administration.

In 2023, top Republicans, including House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and DOGE chairman Aaron Bean, raised concerns about Mousavian’s tenure at Princeton. They questioned whether Princeton had consulted with US government officials before hiring Mousavian, citing his past involvement in activities linked to terrorism.

Fox News Digital reached out to Cruz, Mousavian, and Princeton University for comment on the ongoing controversy.

It remains to be seen how the conflict between Cruz and Mousavian will unfold, as both parties continue to defend their positions and engage in a war of words. The situation highlights the complex dynamics at play in academia and politics, especially when it comes to individuals with controversial backgrounds and affiliations.
