Young woman from Lunenburg County pleads guilty to pimping girl

A young woman from Lunenburg County has pleaded guilty to five pimping-related charges involving a teenage girl.

Chloe Wile, 21, was awaiting a jury trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax this April on a total of 17 charges.

On Wednesday, Wile pleaded guilty to charges of procuring a person under the age of 18 to provide sexual services for consideration, receiving financial benefit from those sexual services, advertising sexual services, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Justice Denise Boudreau accepted the guilty pleas and tentatively scheduled Wile’s sentencing hearing for April 24.

Wile was released from custody on $4,000 bail in November 2022 and placed on house arrest at her surety’s residence in Upper Chelsea, Lunenburg County.

The identity of the victim is protected by a publication ban. She was 16 when Wile began abusing her in Lunenburg County in the fall of 2020. The activity went on until November 2021 in Lunenburg County and Halifax Regional Municipality.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Wile met the girl in high school in Bridgewater and their relationship quickly turned violent.

In December 2020, Wile drove the girl to an area near Crescent Beach, threatened her with a knife and held the weapon to her neck.

Over the next several months, Wile continued to threaten the victim with knives at an apartment in Martins River.

Some of the fights between the pair were over money, as they both were unemployed and were having problems paying rent. Some fights related to Wile selling nude photos of the girl on Tinder after telling men she was 18 or 19 years of age.

“During this time, Ms. Wile kept (the girl’s) cellphone and had access to her social media accounts,” the statement of facts says.

“Ms. Wile showed (the victim) the conversations she was having with men on Snapchat discussing what type of photos or videos they wanted. The money was sent by e-transfer to Ms. Wile’s account. (The victim) did not directly get any of the money.”

Wile then helped arrange for men to come to the apartment to have sex with the girl for money. The girl did not receive any of that money either.

Wile also arranged for the girl to meet a man who was staying at a hotel in Bridgewater and videotaped them having sex. The man gave Wile money, which she kept for herself.

After they left the hotel, Wile sent the man a Snapchat message saying she was going to report him to police for having sex with a minor. The man sent her more money via e-transfer.

Moved to Halifax

In September 2021, Wile and the girl moved into an apartment in Halifax. Wile made arrangements for men to come to the residence to have sex with the girl for money on three occasions. Wiles collected the money, and the girl did not directly receive any of the funds.

In November 2021, Wile arranged for the girl to meet a man at the Seasons Inn in Halifax to collect money for nudes. When the girl went to the man’s hotel room, he had sex with her against her will. Wile threatened to report the man to police unless he sent her more money, and he e-transferred her $200.

The victim testified at a preliminary inquiry in Halifax provincial court last summer that she didn’t feel she could refuse to have sex with men for money or refuse to sell her nude photos because she was afraid of Wile and needed to help pay the rent.

The girl described continued physical violence from Wile in November 2021, including one incident where Wile confined her to a laundry room while armed with a knife.

“(The victim) indicated that Ms. Wile kept her health card, identity documents and bank card,” the agreed facts say. “Her paycheques were deposited into Ms. Wile’s account. The police executed a search warrant on the Halifax apartment and found (the) bank card hidden in a desk.”

‘Chloe Thunder’

Police obtained Wile’s bank records, extracted data from her cellphone and gained access to her Snapchat account, which had a username of “Chloe Thunder.”

“Snapchat is an application that automatically deletes all messages sent between users,” the statement of facts says. “Users can, however, save photos and videos on the app. Ms. Wile’s videos included sexually explicit videos of both (the victim) and another young woman.”

Defence lawyer Josh Nodelman asked that a presentence report on Wile that was prepared for another matter last year be updated for this sentencing. He said a psychiatric assessment would also be useful.

The judge scheduled a phone hearing for March 4 for a status report on Nodelman’s efforts to retain someone to do the psychiatric assessment. That will dictate whether the sentencing hearing can proceed in April as scheduled.

The other 12 charges against Wile, which include trafficking a person under the age of 18 and extortion, are expected to be withdrawn after she is sentenced.

While on bail, Wile cannot possess or use a cellphone or any other device capable of connecting to the internet unless she is in the “immediate physical presence” of her surety.

She’s also prohibited from possessing or consuming drugs, communicating with or being around anyone under the age of 18, having contact with the complainant and one other Crown witness, and possessing any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code.

She can only use a knife for food preparation or consumption or in the immediate course of her employment.
