GOP rebukes Biden ‘hostility’ toward gun owners, praising Trump repeal of ‘harmful’ policies
House Small Business Committee Chair Roger Williams, a top House Republican, is taking a stand against the Biden administration’s gun control policies. In a formal rebuke introduced on Thursday, Williams is leading a resolution that praises President Donald Trump while criticizing former President Joe Biden for infringing on Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
The resolution, supported by at least 14 House Republicans, commends the current White House for working to protect Second Amendment freedoms by reviewing and eliminating any infringements imposed by the Biden administration. Williams expressed his concerns about the Biden administration and radical leftists criminalizing law-abiding gun owners, jeopardizing their constitutional rights.
President Trump’s actions to dismantle Biden’s infringements on Second Amendment freedoms are highlighted in the resolution. Shortly after Attorney General Pam Bondi took office, Trump ordered a 30-day review to identify any ongoing violations of the Second Amendment by the federal government. Bondi subsequently established a Second Amendment task force to advance Trump’s pro-gun agenda and protect gun owners from government overreach.
The Department of Justice recently revoked a Biden-era “zero tolerance” policy by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives, which had led to the revocation of licenses from firearm dealers for minor clerical errors. Gun rights groups criticized the policy for imposing undue burdens on dealers.
The GOP resolution disapproves of the Biden administration’s gun control agenda and its hostility towards the lawful gun industry. It also supports President Trump’s efforts to repeal harmful policies imposed by the Biden administration and commends his commitment to upholding the Constitution and defending the right to bear arms.
The resolution, backed by the National Rifle Association, coincides with Second Amendment Day on Thursday. It aims to reaffirm congressional support for the Second Amendment and highlight President Trump’s actions to protect American gun owners from government overreach.
