3rd person charged in homicide of Cape Breton woman

RCMP in Nova Scotia have charged a third person in connection with the death of Natacha Leroy in Big Bras D’Or, N.S., late last year.

RCMP in Nova Scotia have charged a third person in connection with a homicide late last year in Big Bras D’Or, N.S.

Police said in a news release that they arrested Cody Alexander Russell, 29, on Monday in New Brunswick.

Russell has been charged with accessory to murder and indignity to human remains in connection with the death of Natacha Leroy in November 2023.

RCMP received a call about a possible homicide at a home in Big Bras D’Or on Nov. 22. They learned that Leroy, 48, had disappeared under suspicious circumstances. A police dog team found her remains two days later.

On Nov. 30, Carolyn Ann Dermody, 25, of North Sydney was charged with murder and indignity to human remains.

On Dec. 1, Kevin Forrest Jr., 28, of Big Bras D’Or was charged with accessory to murder and indignity to human remains.

Leroy was known to both Dermody and Forrest, RCMP said in a news release on Dec. 5.
