Botched late-term abortion spurs lawsuit in blue state court: ‘Horrific’

An anonymous woman from Indiana has filed a rare medical negligence lawsuit against an Illinois abortionist after a late-term abortion took a horrific turn. The lawsuit, filed by Chicago injury attorney Richard Craig on behalf of the woman known as Jane Doe, names the Champaign-based Equity Clinic and its founder, Dr. Keith Reisinger-Kindle, as defendants.

According to the lawsuit, the 22-week abortion performed in April 2023 by Reisinger-Kindle resulted in parts of the fetus being left inside the woman’s body, leading to severe complications. Despite reporting persistent cramping after the procedure, the woman alleges that Reisinger-Kindle advised her to take over-the-counter pain relievers and laxatives. She eventually had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the remaining body parts.

The lawsuit also alleges that Reisinger-Kindle refused to provide pertinent information to the attending surgeons without the woman’s consent. A medical report included in the filings states that Reisinger-Kindle deviated from the standard of care by perforating the plaintiff’s uterus and failing to recognize the injury. The report also notes that if Reisinger-Kindle had performed a proper examination of the remains, it would have been obvious that fetal parts were left behind.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, Illinois has become a haven for abortion procedures, enacting legislative measures to protect providers and out-of-state women seeking abortion services from lawsuits.

Reisinger-Kindle, who was featured in a Chicago Tribune article, is one of many providers who have opened abortion clinics in the Midwest following the high court’s ruling. Craig, the attorney representing Jane Doe, alleges that Reisinger-Kindle did not administer any pain relief medication to the fetus before its dismemberment, which would have stopped its heartbeat.

Despite the challenges presented by current laws, Craig is determined to seek justice for Jane Doe and hold Reisinger-Kindle accountable for the alleged medical negligence. Fox News Digital reached out to Reisinger-Kindle for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

This lawsuit sheds light on the importance of ensuring that medical procedures, including abortions, are conducted with the utmost care and attention to prevent harmful consequences for patients. It also raises questions about the regulations and protections in place for individuals seeking abortion services in states like Illinois. As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how this case will impact the ongoing debate surrounding reproductive rights and healthcare practices.
