60 years after its debut, Tiffany & Co. reimagines the iconic Bird on a Rock

The iconic Bird on a Rock jewelry motif by Tiffany & Co. has been reimagined in a new fine jewelry collection, marking a significant chapter in the brand’s history. Chief Artistic Officer Nathalie Verdeille led the reinterpretation, exploring the essence of the design in two distinct ways: naturalism and abstraction.
Originally created by artist Jean Schlumberger in 1965, the quirky cockatoo perched atop a stunning stone has become a symbol of whimsy and vibrancy for Tiffany & Co. The reinterpretation required a deep dive into the world of birds, studying their stances, feathers, and wings to create dynamic forms that seem to flutter and perch upon the wearer.
The new Bird on a Rock by Tiffany collection includes both high jewelry and fine jewelry pieces, showcasing the brand’s commitment to the iconic motif. President and CEO Anthony Ledru expressed his belief in the relevance of Schlumberger’s design, highlighting the bird as a key piece for the company’s future.
For the fine jewelry collection, called Wings, Verdeille and her team took a more abstract approach to representing the Bird on a Rock motif. Elegant, abstract patterns inspired by the bird’s wings adorn pieces like slim band rings and pendant necklaces, creating a symbolic and stylish look.
Both the fine and high jewelry creations pay tribute to Schlumberger’s legacy, with designs that speak to his love of textures and sculptural forms. The collection features intricate plays of light created through multiple setting techniques, highlighting the beauty and artistry of each piece.
Each piece in the Bird on a Rock by Tiffany collection is a wearable work of art, poised to captivate and inspire. Discover the beauty and elegance of this iconic motif in a whole new light.
