7 San Antonio police officers shot in confrontation with suspect with 3 prior arrests

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus addressed the media about a harrowing incident where seven officers were shot by a suicidal man. The tragic event unfolded on January 22, 2025, on the far north side of the city.

SWAT teams were called in after the officers were wounded by the suspect. Chief McManus confirmed that the suspect was later found dead inside an apartment following an intense standoff. It remains unclear whether the suspect took his own life or was killed by SWAT gunfire.

The suspect had a troubling history, with three recent arrests on January 18 for assault and DWI offenses. Shockingly, he was out on bond when the shooting occurred at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex on Stone Oak Parkway.

Chief McManus described the suspect as a man in his 40s, with the initial call to the police coming from a concerned family member. The community is left reeling from this tragic event, as the brave officers recover from their injuries.

The San Antonio Fire Department was also on the scene, providing support during the crisis. The entire city is mourning the senseless violence that unfolded that night.

As investigations continue into this devastating incident, the community is urged to reach out for support if they are struggling with thoughts of suicide. The Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255) is available for those in need of help.
