Ex-police officer sentenced after sharing confidential info with Proud Boys

Former D.C. police officer Shane Lamond has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for obstructing justice and making false statements. Lamond, who was the supervisor of the Intelligence Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homeland Security Bureau, leaked sensitive information to Proud Boys leader Henry “Enrique” Tarrio.

Lamond’s actions came to light in December 2024 when he was convicted of tipping off Tarrio about his department’s investigation into the destruction of a “Black Lives Matter” banner. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves emphasized the seriousness of Lamond’s actions, stating that he had violated the trust placed in him and put the community at risk by providing confidential information to a source.

Tarrio, who was considered the “prime subject” of the investigation, was regularly in contact with Lamond regarding Proud Boys activities in D.C. Despite this, Lamond shared confidential law enforcement information with Tarrio, who then passed it on to other members of the Proud Boys.

Just two days before the January 6 Capitol riot, Lamond informed Tarrio of an arrest warrant against him. Tarrio was subsequently arrested and pleaded guilty. The maximum penalties for obstruction of justice and false statement charges in D.C. are 30 years and five years in prison, respectively.

Following Lamond’s sentencing, Tarrio called on President Donald Trump to pardon the former officer, claiming injustice in the courtroom. However, the Justice Department stood by Lamond’s conviction, emphasizing the critical role of intelligence gathering in keeping the community safe.

The case highlights the importance of upholding the law and maintaining the integrity of law enforcement agencies. It serves as a reminder of the consequences of betraying public trust and compromising sensitive information. As the legal process unfolds, it is crucial to hold individuals accountable for their actions and ensure justice is served.
