Dems blame Trump for violence in Los Angeles despite own anti-ICE rhetoric

Democratic lawmakers are blaming President Donald Trump for the violent scenes in Los Angeles, accusing the Republican White House of inciting rioters in California this past weekend. Activists in Los Angeles took to the streets to protest ICE operations, with many demonstrations turning violent as protesters threw rocks at law enforcement and set cars ablaze.

Trump allies have retaliated, accusing Democratic lawmakers of hypocrisy for weeks of anti-ICE displays and rhetoric coming from the left. Rep. Jeff Crank from Colorado stated, “For weeks now, the Left has been spewing anti-ICE rhetoric, leading to riots in LA. Trump is calling for law and order. The Left is defending chaos because it fits their narrative. Why won’t they denounce these riots? Because it’s not politically convenient for them.”

Despite objections from Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Trump ordered the National Guard to provide backup to ICE agents. Democrats like Rep. Adriano Espaillat from New York accused the Trump administration of inciting violence in Los Angeles. Rep. Stephen Lynch from Massachusetts stated, “Trump wanted this violent confrontation to pit people against one another and distract Americans from the ongoing meltdown in the White House.”

Gov. Newsom also criticized the Trump administration for sending troops to manufacture chaos and violence. Rep. Darrell Issa from California criticized Democrats for their continued support of illegal aliens. The violence in Los Angeles follows weeks of Democratic criticism of ICE operations, with accusations of indiscriminate rounding up of people without proper vetting.

House Democrats like Rep. Pramila Jayapal from Washington are participating in anti-ICE rallies across the country. Rep. Rashida Tlaib from Michigan, who has previously criticized federal immigration actions, is expected to attend a rally in Washington, D.C. calling for an end to ICE raids targeting immigrant workers.
