TSA agent arrested for allegedly assaulting woman, 79, at Florida airport

A Transportation Security Administration agent was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 79-year-old passenger at Fort Lauderdale’s airport, with police stating that she was “forcefully pushing her,” according to a report by WPLG.
Janiyah Wilson-Robinson, a 21-year-old from Margate, was taken into custody following the incident at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report mentioned that Wilson-Robinson attacked the elderly woman from Palm Beach Gardens by pushing her forcefully, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her forehead. The passenger, who was traveling on a JetBlue flight that day, suffered minor bruising as a result of the altercation.
The motive behind the alleged confrontation was not immediately clear, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office did not respond to requests for comments. The elderly passenger received an ice pack for her injuries and declined a trip to the hospital.
Wilson-Robinson was charged with aggravated battery on a person over 65 years old and was released on a $1,000 bond. In response to the incident, a TSA spokesperson stated, “TSA holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and we do not tolerate behavior that violates these standards or the public’s trust.” The spokesperson also mentioned that Wilson-Robinson has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, with full cooperation being extended to law enforcement authorities.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect when interacting with passengers, especially vulnerable individuals. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for the TSA to address any lapses in protocol and ensure the safety and well-being of all travelers.
