$94 million in grants awarded to Jewish faith-based organizations: DHS

Secretary Kristi Noem and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have announced a significant allocation of $94.4 million in federal grants to 512 Jewish faith-based organizations through the National Security Supplemental (NSGP-NSS). This funding, part of the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, aims to enhance the security and safety measures of these organizations through target hardening and physical security enhancements.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin of DHS emphasized the importance of addressing the rise in anti-Semitic attacks across the United States. She stated, “DHS is working to put a stop to the deeply disturbing rise in anti-Semitic attacks across the United States. That this money is necessary at all is tragic. Anti-Semitic violence has no place in this country.”
The grants will be utilized for various security measures such as installing cameras, physical barriers, and other safety initiatives to safeguard these organizations against potential threats. The increase in anti-Semitic attacks in the US has been attributed to the ongoing conflict between Israel and neighboring countries, particularly highlighted by Hamas’s attack on Israel in 2023.
American college campuses have also seen a surge in Israel and Palestine protests, with incidents of violence targeting pro-Israel demonstrators. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported a record high of 9,354 anti-Semitic incidents in 2024, marking a 344% increase over the past five years.
Faith-based organizations must apply through DHS to receive funding, and these recent grants are just the beginning of additional support to be provided. The Trump administration’s steadfast support for Israel amidst Middle East tensions has culminated in a recent ceasefire negotiation between Israel and Iran, brokered by Qatar.
While strides have been made towards peace abroad, the prevalence of anti-Semitism in the US continues to be a pressing concern. The grants awarded to Jewish faith-based organizations underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of these communities in the face of rising threats.
As we work towards combatting anti-Semitism and promoting a culture of tolerance and inclusivity, it is imperative to stand united against hatred and violence in all its forms. The support extended to these organizations reflects a collective effort to safeguard religious freedom and uphold the values of peace and harmony within our society.
