Trump’s FCC chief reveals priorities, including space economy dominance

Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), recently outlined his six priorities for his tenure, including a focus on dominating the space economy. In a speech delivered in South Dakota, Carr emphasized the importance of America’s role in the emerging space industry.

Carr highlighted the need for U.S. companies to dominate in orbit, as satellites have become essential for America’s economic and geopolitical strategy. He laid out key guiding principles for this effort, including speed, simplicity, security, and satellite spectrum abundance.

Under Carr’s leadership, the FCC is already making progress in clearing backlogs of applications for satellite systems. Carr emphasized the need for acceleration in this process, noting that it currently takes less time for innovators to build and launch satellite constellations than for federal agencies to approve those launches.

As part of his “Build America Agenda,” Carr also outlined priorities such as unleashing high-speed infrastructure builds, restoring America’s leadership in wireless technology, cutting red tape, advancing national security and public safety, and strengthening America’s workforce. He emphasized the need to eliminate outdated rules and focus on future technologies like 5G and artificial intelligence.

Carr’s vision aligns with President Donald Trump’s goal of keeping America at the forefront of technology. The FCC chairman stressed the importance of beating China in critical technology races, such as 5G, 6G, and AI. He highlighted the establishment of a new council on National Security within the agency to ensure U.S. businesses set the gold standard for technologies worldwide.

In conclusion, Carr’s priorities as FCC chairman demonstrate a commitment to advancing America’s technological leadership and ensuring the country’s dominance in the space economy. By focusing on speed, security, and innovation, Carr aims to propel the U.S. to new heights in the global tech landscape.
