Musk discusses new America Party with Andrew Yang after Trump feud

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is making waves in the political arena as he moves forward with forming a third party in an effort to shake up the nation’s longstanding two-party system. Musk recently reached out to Andrew Yang, a one-time presidential candidate who has started his own independent party, to discuss Musk’s push to create the “America Party.”

Yang, who gained national attention during the 2020 election cycle, went from being an extreme longshot to briefly being a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. However, after an unsuccessful 2021 run for New York City mayor, Yang soured on the two-party system and formed the independent Forward Party, which aims to eventually gain ballot access from coast to coast.

Musk and Yang are no strangers, as Musk supported Yang’s unsuccessful presidential bid in 2019. Musk, who became the top donor of the 2024 election cycle, dished out nearly $300 million in support of Trump’s bid through America PAC, a super PAC aligned with Trump that was mostly funded by Musk.

The billionaire CEO recently announced the launch of the “America Party” on his social media platform X, a day after Trump signed a sweeping domestic policy package into law. However, Trump ridiculed Musk’s move, stating that starting a third party adds to confusion and is not a viable option in a two-party system.

Despite the challenges of starting an independent or third party and gaining ballot access in states across the country, Musk remains determined to shake up the political landscape. His feud with Trump, which began after Musk left his position as a special White House advisor, has not deterred him from his mission to create a new political force in American politics.

As Musk and Yang continue to discuss the formation of the “America Party,” all eyes will be on how their efforts will impact the upcoming midterm elections. With Musk’s financial resources and Yang’s grassroots support, the potential for a new player in the political arena is certainly intriguing. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
