RCMP and DNR are investigating several suspect fires

Cumberland District RCMP, in combination with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), investigates various suspect fires that, according to them, are intentionally established.

On August 13, around 4.40 pm, RCMP says they were called to help limit traffic and warn residents of potential evacuations while fire staff and DNR worked to control fires along two pieces in the vicinity of Oxford.

Firefighters tried to control several grass fires along HWY. 204 at Birchwood, and along Jungle Road south of Oxford Station.

RCMP says that evidence that is collected in the vicinity of one of the fires indicates that they have been intentionally established, but did not indicate what evidence was established.

The research is underway with the help of DNR.

All witnesses or someone with dashcam images are asked to contact the authorities. The police are interested in images of the following areas.

  • Hwy. 321 around Oxford Junction between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm on August 13
  • Hwy. 204 around Birchwood between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm on 13 August 13
  • Jungle Road from HWY. 321 to Thomson Road between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm on August 13

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
